Abstract

The city of Padang, located on the western coast of Sumatra Island, has a high potential for tsunami disasters due to its proximity to the Megathrust subduction zone. This study aims to identify tsunami-prone areas in the city of Padang using remote sensing data based on active sensors, namely the Digital Elevation Model (DEM) from the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imagery. The analysis was conducted using an overlay method on several vulnerability parameters, such as distance from the coastline, elevation, slope gradient, and distance from rivers, with weighting and scoring in a Geographic Information System (GIS). The results of the study indicate that most of the districts of West Padang, South Padang, and North Padang are located in a highly tsunami-prone zone. This mapping produced tsunami hazard and exposure maps that can serve as a reference for disaster mitigation efforts and evacuation planning in the city of Padang. It is hoped that this spatial data-based approach will enhance community preparedness and the effectiveness of disaster risk management.
